Spinto Band to release new album

Wilmington Delaware's homegrown pop outfit has returned. After spending the last couple of years constructing, installing, and setting up a coffee pot in a new studio in their hometown, the Spinto Band is ready to offer up the fruit of their labors. Since 2009, the band has been operating out of their own club house, The Garden Center, where they have made music, hosted concerts and events, and operated an office for their new label Spintonic Recordings.

The fruit of all this is Shy Pursuit, the third worldwide LP released by the band and a return to the self bridled means that made the Spinto Band fall in love with music. It started as a bunch of teenagers in a basement stamping cassette tapes mixed off an inherited 4 track and evolved into a bunch of dudes stamping envelopes containing LPs mixed from multitrack recording software. With the release of Shy Pursuit, the Spinto Band has embraced self-sustenance. The boys built a new studio from parts of salvaged university engineering labs and a lot of craigslist purchases in Wilmington's back alleys. Writing, producing, and mixing at the Garden Center, allowed the band to create the album with only one approach in mind- their own. Shy Pursuit was born from months of guitar overdubs, Casio sound collecting, amplifier building, coffee runs, and Nintendo recesses.

With sounds ranging from pedal steel guitar to bass clarinet and a whole lot of vocal harmonies, each track on Shy Pursuit is intentionally open for audience exploration. Each melody is sculpted, and all the rhythms are air tight. Such meticulous craftsmanship has created a collection of songs in which the Spinto Band is proud and excited and a tad bit nervous to let out into the world. The first single, "Take It" was birthed from a Harry Nilsson writing exercise and filtered through the rhythm section of Thriller-era Michael Jackson. Here, warbling analog synths conspire with chamber orchestras and collide into an explosive chorus. Whereas, "The Living Things" has a foundation of simple musical progressions and repetition that is reminiscent of some of the band's earlier work. The band takes advantage of this simple bedrock to explore new rhythmic ideas which combine with the melody to become the main propellant of the song's drive.

Fans of the Spinto Band have come to expect fun loving surprises with each album, and this one should be no different. The band hopes to have a few you-tube treats to coincide with Shy Pursuit as well as an ipod app/game, a Cinco de Mayo release party at Delaware’s renowned Dogfish Head Brewpub, and their first national tour in over a year.

Shy Pursuit is a large step forward for the Spinto Band. They took their time crafting an album on their turf and on their terms. After taking the horse by the reigns, they hope to shape the band the way they have always wanted it to be seen. The album is completely their own, and they can't wait to share it. Out May 1st, 2012 on Spintonic Recordings!
