Sha Na Na to release album

Sha Na Na, the Grammy nominated music legends who co-starred in the blockbuster film Grease along with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, and appeared just before Jimi Hendrix at The Woodstock Festival, celebrates over forty years in the industry with a brand new record titled Sha Na Na 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. The project will be available in stores and online starting August 14.

The Sha Na Na 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition features 20 digitally re-mastered recordings of the band’s greatest hits from Woodstock, Grease and The Sha Na Na TV Show. Among the titles are Rock ‘n Roll is Here to Stay, Hound Dog, Sandy, and Willie and the Hand Jive. Also included are six previously unreleased recordings and a 12-page souvenir booklet loaded with pictures and untold stories that chronicle Sha Na Na’s career of more than four decades.

"This project celebrates a long and interesting journey from Woodstock to last Saturday night when we left them dancing in the aisles," says co-founder and drummer Jocko Marcellino.

The dynamic performers have come a long way from their more traditional Ivy League roots as undergraduate a capella singers in the Columbia University glee club, The Kingsmen, that used to perform a capella versions of ‘50s rock songs as part of their performances.

Not only was Sha Na Na part of the original Woodstock Festival lineup, but they also starred in their own world-wide syndicated television show, The Sha Na Na TV Show, released 18 albums, had six songs on the Grammy nominated Grease soundtrack, and today continue to play more than 50 concerts a year.

The album is brought to audiences by The Gold Label, founded by entertainment icon Pat Boone. The Sha Na Na 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition joins other Sha Na Na releases in the Gold Label catalogue including Rock and Roll Dance Party, a collection of the greatest dance themes of the era, Sha Na Na’s first holiday CD of their career, Rockin’ Christmas, and the group’s first completely original Rock ‘n Roll doo-wop CD, One More Saturday Night.

Sha Na Na will tour this fall in support of the CD release with dates in Ocean City, MD, Waterbury, CT, Boston, MA, Mamaroneck, NY, Sellersville, PA, Tampa, FL and more to come.
