Martin Luther King event Jan. 19 at House of Blues WeHo

On Saturday, Jan. 19, the International House of Blues Foundation® (IHOBF) will join with local students and community members to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at House of Blues-Sunset Strip (8430 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood), IHOBF's Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration: Inspired by His Words “The Right Side of the World Revolution” will feature music, dance and visual art presentations by students and a special guest speaker. The event is free and open to the public – families and community groups are welcome.

Participating youth use the words of Dr. King as inspiration for creating the artistic works that they will perform and exhibit during the program. Students are encouraged to not only explore Dr. King’s life and his commitment to social justice and equality for all people but to also consider the manner in which his principles and philosophies continue to influence contemporary life.

“Drawing upon the arts to explore and celebrate Dr. King’s life is a wonderful way to bring the community together to reflect upon the significance of this national holiday” said Nazanin Fatemian, IHOBF Program Manager. “It is our hope that participating youth are inspired by the program to continue efforts to realize Dr. King’s dream for humanity.”

The program will include performances by the Lula Washington African Dance and Drum Ensemble, Heart of Los Angeles Music Ensemble, Bancroft Middle Schools’ Performing Arts Dance Academy and Kid City South Park Big Band.
