Jon McLaughlin's tour continues

American heartland singer-songwriter and pianist Jon McLaughlin’s non-stop touring in support of INDIANA, his first album for Island Records, will receive maximum exposure when he opens for Kelly Clarkson on her much-anticipated 24-city North American tour, starting with three nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York, October 14-16th. (Please see tour dates below.)

Jon’s summertime tour schedule included a month-long 17-city trip with northern California singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. Those dates wrap up this Saturday and immediately segue into two weeks with Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini (starting Sunday, September 30th). The itinerary climaxes with a solo headlining homecoming concert on October 13th at Anderson University, Jon’s hometown alma mater in Indiana. The very next night, he returns to the road on the Kelly Clarkson tour (postponed from the summer).

Named one of “The 10 Hot Guys of Summer” by US Weekly magazine, Jon was seen performing on the CBS-TV daytime drama The Bold & The Beautiful last month. This was a busy season for Jon, who was featured in June on the NPR (National Public Radio) program “Weekend Edition,” which resulted in INDIANA rocketing up the Amazon charts.

Also in June, Jon performed “Beautiful Disaster” live on NBC’s The Today Show. USA Today highlighted the song, noting: “The title’s first word is how he sees her. The second word is how she sees herself. The sad thing is he’s right.” The video for “Beautiful Disaster,” the current single, reached 13 on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown. On Tuesday night, August 7th, Jon made his premiere appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

INDIANA’s title tune pays tribute to Jon’s hometown of Anderson. He has written songs for the album with the Matrix, Jamie Houston, Grammy-nominated Marcus Hummons, Matthew Gerard, and Kevin Griffin (of Better Than Ezra). The album was produced by Jamie Houston (credits: Santana, Jessica Simpson, Macy Gray, The Calling) and Greg Wells (Natasha Bedingfield, Veronicas, OTEP, Rufus Wainwright); and was mixed by Chris Lord Alge.

Jon will make his own big screen debut in Enchanted, the new Disney animated-and-live comedy starring Susan Sarandon, Idina Menzel, Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams scheduled to open this fall. Jon will be singing (onscreen) “So Close”, a song written for the movie soundtrack by Stephen Schwartz.

People magazine praised Jon’s “charm and chops, as evident on tunes like the title cut, on which this boy earnestly confesses that he’s not so ready to meet the big bad world.” Since its launch in May, nearly 800,000 Hoosiers and others have been attracted to Jon’s myspace website (www.myspace.com/jonmclaughlin). More than 2.2 million plays have been logged on the site, which features four songs from the album: “Beautiful Disaster,” “Indiana,” “Industry,” and “Human.” Jon can also be reached via http://www.jonmclaughlinmusic.com/.
