Here's the latest in the local scene, compliments of my friend Sierra Madre Sue:

Larry is the chef from CAFE 322. In addition to cooking up tasty and attractive Italian dishes at the restaurant, Larry is in a band with cousin and owner of 322, Mario. You might guess that it's a Jazz band, considering they feature a lot of Jazz in their entertainment line-up, and in the artwork on the walls. But Jazz it is NOT! With Larry on bass and Mario on guitar and vocals, these two otherwise mild-mannered men create some extremely high-energy, hard-hitting Rock 'n' Roll. They've got the late time slot at the BUCCANEER LOUNGE this Sat. 9/29 - 11 or 11:30ish, because they've got to close up the restaurant first!

THURS. 9/27 - RICK SHEA AND THE LOSIN' END @ ARCADIA BLUES CLUB, 8-11:30pm, with special guests the TREMOLOCOS do ing the middle set at 9pm. 16 E. SAT. 10/6 - Open Mic Night @ the FRETHOUSE in Covina. 309 N. Citrus Ave. (626) 339-7020. Always on the first Saturday of the month, and just one dollar for performers or audience. Sign-up starts at 7:30. If there aren't enough slots for everybody they'll make a list for the next month, and call you. Each act gets two songs or ten minutes, whichever comes first.
