BIO:
Since 2001 Speed of Life has been making music on its own terms. This New York based band prides itself on its musicianship and creative integration of multiple genres. Using rock songwriting as a format, the band incorporates elements of live drum and bass, progressive rock, fusion, ambient, electronic and reggae.
In 2004 the band released their debut album "Mainstay". Over 160 college and commercial radio stations put "Mainstay" into regular rotation in the spring of 2005.
In January of 2007 the band released their follow up album "Catalyst". The release was followed by an extensive 2-month tour spanning up and down the east coast and across the U.S.
"Catalyst" expands on the cross genre experimentation within each song while defining their essence as first priority. You will hear elements of acoustic ballads, Latin inspired riffs and atmospheric sounds as well as the hard rock and drum + bass "Mainstay" had to offer.
A Speed of Life show is a unique experience. Solid musicianship and strong songwriting absorbs listeners' attention. It is conscious music, both personal and political. John Zay fuses passionate vocals atop a driving and textured "guitarscape". Drummer Tobias Ralph attacks the drums with conviction and finesse incorporating eclectic rhythms. Keyboardist Dan Policar adds spacious synths that create ambient atmospherics. Nick Damato digs in melodically on bass to anchor the elements together.

PRAISE:

"…their richness in sound comes at a period in popular music that extols the values of sounding simplistic; while this expansive, difficult to categorize sound may fly in the face of all the Britney's of the world, it also may be our only savior."-Nuefutur

"Brilliantly technical in the main and ethnically experimental at times, Speed of Life add just enough Flaming Lips vulnerability to their coliseum-oriented material----if anyone deserves a shot at the Bigs, it's these guys."-168 Mag
