THE PURSE & THE PERSON, A Century of Women's Purses - Exhibition
Wednesdays-Sundays, 12:00-5:00 pm through March 30
Exhibition uses purses as a tool for forensic sociology to illustrate 100 years of changing fashion and women's lifestyles. Eight vignettes in two large galleries examine iconic women of the 20th century, from the Edwardian matron to the Superwoman of recent decades. A perfect way to celebrate Women's History Month (March)!
Admission: $5 general; $4 students & seniors; free children under 12.
THE PURSE & THE PERSON - Docent-Guided Tour & Tea at Raymond Restaurant
Fridays, March 7, 14, 21 & 28
Tour: 12:00 pm; Tea: 1:45 pm
Trained docents will cover 100 year's of women's history and fashion through the visual artifacts in this unique exhibition Complete this special afternoon with optional tea at The Raymond Restaurant, originally the caretaker's cottage of the famed Raymond Hotel. The restaurant is located at1250 S. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena. Please note: tour guests must self-drive to the restaurant.
Cost: Tour $8 general; $4 museum members (advance payment required); Tea $25 (payable at restaurant; 20% percent of your restaurant bill will be donated to the Museum).

THE GREAT PASADENA PURSE SWAP
Sunday, March 9, 2:00-5:00 pm
Dreaming of a new clutch? Don't want to spend much? Here is the event for you: Bring in an empty, clean purse that you've grown tired of and swap it for one of equal value. The purse-centric afternoon includes information stations about purse authenticity, purse safety, and purse history plus refreshments.
Admission: $8 general; $5 museum members allows you to swap one purse. Swap additional purses (maximum 3 per person) for an additional $5 each.

POCKETBOOKS, PURSES, HANDBAGS: A BRIEF HISTORY

Join Dr. Carol Tuntland, Associate Professor of Fashion and Textiles at Cal State LA, on a journey to identify the pocketbooks, purses, and handbags of centuries past. Today purses are indispensable accessories for women. But they have had a rich history and came in many forms with names we may not know today.
