David "Cat" Cohen is a pro songwriter, author, and songwriting instructor. As an ASCAP songwriter he has had pop, jazz, blues and R&B songs cut by recording artists Cheryl Lynn, Syreeta, Freddie Hubbard, and Bo Diddley, and social commentary songs played on several KCET programs. He co-wrote a jazz instrumental featured in the HBO movie The Rat Pack as well as a song for Universal's feature film Undercover Brother.
Recently Cat released his own jazzy-bluesy indie CD of ten original tunes SONGS OF SURVIVAL AND SWEET SURRENDER which was rave reviewed as UNSIGNED ARTIST OF THE MONTH in Keyboard Magazine and is available at CD Baby and Itunes. His song "Blue State of Mind" was included on Songsalive Sampler 9. He also wrote and self-published his own songcraft book SONGWRITING FOR YOUR ORIGNAL ACT available at Amazon.com. As a session pianist his keyboard work is featured on the Hamster Love cut on the Rhino Records Dr. Demento's 30th Anniversary.
Cat wrote the chapter on music theory for John Braheny's recently revised book The Craft And Business Of Music. He has been a regular speaker at the TAXI ROAD RALLY for many years. Cat has written several musicals including the spiritual-rock Lightflow and The Not So Great Escape, a children's anti-drug pop-opera which Opera Pacific commissioned and performed extensively in schools throughout Southern California.
He currently teaches songcraft at Cal Poly Pomona and coaches and consults for keyboard players and songwriters in private sessions in the L.A. area. www.catcohen.com , www.myspace.com/catcohen
