Thursday nights during the month of March will feature indie new wave band theSTART performing in the Crash Lounge. theSTART has shared the stage with bands such as, Garbage and She Wants Revenge, and is ready to bring their talents to a month-long residency at downtown’s Crash Mansion. Every Thursday will feature new bands opening for theSTART (see full line up below). Aimee Echo and Jamie Miller formed theSTART in the fall of 1998, citing a mutual love of dark wave, dance music and art rock. The prophetic nature of their name revealed itself quickly, as they would be among the first of the crop of the new, new wave. Over the course of two acclaimed albums and one EP, theSTART’s modern eclecticism and rock hooks have earned them a devoted following and a reputation as trendsetters of this new millennium.
theSTART have won considerable acclaim for unfailingly compelling live sets, having shared stages with a wide range of popular acts, including Garbage, She Wants Revenge, the Moving Units, The International Noise Conspiracy, Burning Brides, the Von Bondies, Joan Jett, Weezer, Incubus and AFI. With their third album “Ciao, Baby," theSTART delves into ever-more adventurous aural terrain, incorporating elements of experimental, electronic, and dance forms, fused with their distinctive rousing dark wave hooks and textures.
The Frequency, an experimental rock band from Los Angeles, will be opening for theSTART on March 13th. Based on the sound of a real Fender Rhodes piano and vintage Fenderamps, the collective sound is a reflection of things old and new. The Frequency cite Pink Floyd, Air, Stereolab and Mogwai as a few influential groups and their song “STARS” will be featured in the Jessica Albamovie The Eye.
