Monterey Music Summit plans to go green

The Monterey Music Summit announced their Green Initiative for their three-day music festival at Laguna Seca, May 30-June 1, 2008 with over 35 bands performing on two stages. The festival continues its commitment to be a zero waste carbon neutral event through the following efforts:

Monterey Salinas Transit will offer direct bus routes to the event. All ticket holders will receive free transportation to and from the event. Riders only need to show their ticket upon entry.
The first 1,000 ticket holders will receive a free reusable #2 water bottle.

Dispensed filtered water will be available through out the event, sponsored by Pure Water Bottling Co.

Run all event generators on 600 gallons of biofuel, provided by Pacific Biofuel.

700 trees will be planted through the CSUMB Return of the Natives Restoration Project in order to offset the event's carbon emissions

Monterey Regional Waste Management District is using the Summit as its first pilot project to create a composting center for the event's food items and service ware. These zero waste stations represent the first ever food waste diversion at a Monterey County event of this size.

The Summit hopes to increase last year's waste diversion rate of 50% with help from Ecology Action of Santa Cruz. Backstage catering to include only local, organic, sustainable farmed foods.
