With an epic sound that's grand in scope while organically grounded, Brooklyn indie rock outfit The Picture is quickly emerging as a force in the New York scene. Taking cues from bands as diverse as Jesus & Mary Chain, Love and Rockets, and The Cure, these heavily-buzzing rockers combine the expansiveness of early 90s rock with a timeless melodicism that sounds perfectly at home on a pair of headphones as they do in an arena. The first EP, the shimmery Bluebirds will be available digitally on February 24th.
Local favorites in New York City, The Picture recenty sold-out NYC's Mercury Lounge in January for their EP release party. QRO Magazine was among the packed crowd and said of the show: "Mercury might never have been as packed as it was on a cold Saturday night, January 24th, for not (yet) as big locals, The Picture... It was still a difficult squeeze but The Picture more than earned it."
A handful of headlining dates have been planned:
February 25th
Double Door
Chicago, IL
February 28th
Brillobox
Pittsburgh, PA
March 5th
Bowery Ballroom
New York, NY
Layered with aural textures and shimmery guitars with propulsive beats that ebb and flow, Bluebird showcases the band's cohesion as musicians and songwriters. From the opening piano-led shimmy of "Another Army" to the anthemic rhythm of "Battling Giants" to the soaring shuffle of the first single "Deer Crossing,"Bluebirds is a genre-defying record that hearkens bands like The Waterboys, Coldplay, and early R.E.M. that focused on melodies without sticking to conventions.
The Picture is Robert Abel (vocals, guitar), Greg Abel (guitar, keys, and vocals), Chris Buckle (lead guitar, piano, backing vocals), Jake Siegler (bass), and Jared Vergilis (drums) and reside in Brooklyn, NY. A follow-up EP, Artichokes, is planned for release in Late Spring.
