Author Barry Friedman to discuss new book on the Supreme Court at Caltech

Author Barry Friedman will discuss his new book, “The Will of the People: How Public Opinion Has Influenced the Supreme Court and Shaped the Meaning of the Constitution” on Thursday, October 1, at 7 p.m. in Caltech’s Hameetman Auditorium. A book signing will follow.

With the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, the relationship between the American public and the Supreme Court is once again on the front burner. In “The Will of the People,” Friedman argues that the Court, which has ruled definitively on such issues as abortion, school prayer, and military tribunals in the War on Terror, has always been subject to a higher power: the American public.

This event is part of Caltech’s Voices of Vision series, and is presented in collaboration with Vroman’s Bookstore.

This event is open to the public, free of charge. Hameetman Auditorium is in Caltech’s new Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, located at 1216 E. California Blvd. in Pasadena. For information, call (626) 395-4652.
