Descanso Gardens' Labor Day party is free

Descanso Gardens announced today that their annual Labor Day picnic and party, Boddy's Big Backyard on Monday Sept. 7, will be a free community event, offering the public some respite from the natural disasters that have plagued the area for nearly a week.

"We want to give back to our community and offer our local residents a chance to be a 'Member for a Day' and enjoy a free admission day," says Descanso Executive Director David Brown. "We invite people who have been stuck inside or those who have been evacuated, a chance to once again enjoy the outdoors and the special events we have scheduled for Labor Day at the Gardens."

Descanso's Labor Day festivities include an all-day Model A Car show, a Latin jazz performance from the Louie Cruz Beltran Ensemble (1-3 p.m.) and picnics on the lawn. Bring your own picnic and blanket or purchase food onsite from Patina Catering.

Labor Day hours at Descanso Gardens are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (818) 949-4200 or visit www.descansogardens.org.
