Pasadena residents, community leaders and business owners will share their ideas about housing, traffic, architectural design, natural resources and more during several speaker series events at the PCC Community Education Center, 3035 E. Foothill Boulevard. All events in the series are at 6:30 p.m.
“People, Housing and Density” is the first event in the series Wednesday, Sept. 16. Dowell Myers, a local resident and nationally recognized University of Southern California researcher on population and housing, will discuss how housing priorities continue to change; local resident Lisa Padilla, an advisor to many Southern California cities and principal of CityWorks Design in Pasadena, will describe the positive and negative effects of density; and William Huang, director of the Pasadena Housing Department and an expert in housing and community development, will examine the future of housing affordability.
“Streets, Traffic and Transit” Wednesday, Sept. 30, will feature Ellen Greenberg, an expert in smart mobility, sustainable streets and transit-oriented development; and Philip Erickson, president of Community Design + Architecture and a planner, urban designer and architect with special expertise in city streets. They will describe the many ways streets work and the options available for getting around town.
“Design and the Character of Pasadena” is scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 14; “Sharing Water, Energy and Other Resources” is Wednesday, Oct. 28; and “Our Plans and the Marketplace” is Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Each of the speaker series events will include a conversation among the panelists followed by plenty of time for questions and answers.
The series is among many activities designed in preparation for updates to the Land Use, Mobility, and Open Space and Conservation Elements of Pasadena’s General Plan.
Other activities include MoveAbout Tours, community workshops, district workshops and a major General Plan open house.
