Latin Grammy Award-winning Brazilian star Djavan returns to the U.S. after a string of sold-out concerts in 2008, Djavan will perform selections from his brand new release “Aria” in a concert celebrating a 34-year career that is comprised of 19 hit albums and an outpouring of classic songs. Djavan is recognized by critics, fans and musicians worldwide as one of Brazil’s leading singer/songwriters. He has been heralded by The New York Times as “an artist who has fused many of the dominant styles onto a personal music [that is] brilliant and comprehensive” and his performance has been described as “one-of-a-kind” by the Los Angeles Times. His musical style has traversed Brazilian borders reaching world music audiences with his winning blend of pop, jazz, fusion of African rhythms, bossa nova, funk, samba, R&B and northeastern sounds.

One of the biggest superstars in Brazilian music, Djavan was born into a poor family in Maceió, capital of Alagoas in Northeastern Brazil. He moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1973 and started singing in local nightclubs. The 1976 album A Voz, o Violão e a Arte de Djavan, which included the hit “Flor de Lis”, catapulted him into stardom. A string of hit albums followed that developed his unique fusion of Brazilian and African music with pop and jazz arrangements with hits like “Açaí”, “Sina,” and “Samurai,” which featured Stevie Wonder. Other well known compositions are: “Meu Bem Querer,” “Oceano,” “Se...,” and “Esquinas,”. Djavan’s compositions have been recorded by Al Jarreau, Carmen McRae, The Manhattan Transfer, Eliane Elias, Lee Ritenour; and by Brazilian stars Gal Costa, Dori Caymmi and Nana Caymmi, Lenine, João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Daniela Mercury, Ney Matogrosso, Dominguinhos, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, and others.

In 2000 his sublime and emotional performance of “Faltando um Pedaço” on the CBS broadcast of the first Latin Grammy Awards left a mark on the North American audience. That same night, “Acelerou” won Best Brazilian Song, taken from the double live album “Ao Vivo” that sold over 1.2 million copies.

Djavan is touring in support of his album Ária which was released this past August. On the new album, Djavan pays tribute to the artists that influenced him by performing a selection of cover songs rather than his own compositions. His live performance will continue this theme, including songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and more.

In collaboration with Brazilian Nites Productions. Patricia and Gilberto Leao, Producers from Brazilian Nites Productions, have brought to LA the best of Brazilian talent including recently the yearly Brazilian Carnaval at Club Nokia, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso since 1990.
