As I've announced before, Mike and I have been part of a presentation by LMU scholar Dr. Daniel Smith Christopher, titled "The Bible and the Blues". We have done it in Anaheim and in Camarillo at ticketed gatherings. We will be doing it again on Sunday, June 19, 10:00-11:30 at the Brentwood Presbyterian Church, and this time the public is welcome, and it is free. We perform several blues numbers while the knowledgeable and entertaining lecturer connects the Old Testament Book of Lamentations to African-American history, Civil Rights, and the Blues. Brentwood Presbyterian Church, 1200 San Vicente Blvd., LA Ca 90049. Please call in advance: (310) 826-5656.

And that ain't all, folks. Later that same day, Mike and I will perform a set of acoustic blues and will back up the astounding and moving vocalist Ms Bettie Fikes in a program sponsored by the Ash Grove Foundation. From Selma, Alabama, Bettie was a leading voice of the Freedom Movement. My musical reunion with her last year reminded me of her greatness. Freedom songs, Gospel, and the Blues sung by this singular voice will move you - I promise. Also on the program, the Get Lit Players. Sunday, June 19, 2:00-4:00, Tropico de Nopal Gallery, 1665 Beverly Blvd., LA Ca 90026. General admission $15, seniors and students $10. (213) 481-8112. http://www.ashgrovemusic.com/
