Bastille Day festival in LA July 17

On Sunday, July 17, 2011 the Bastille Day Los Angeles Festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary and pay tribute to Charles Trénet. As homage to the popular French singer and songwriter who passed away ten years ago, his song "There is Joy!” (Y'a d'la joie) will be used as the main theme of the event. Each Bastille Day entertainer will also perform a Trenet song such as “Beyond The Sea” (La Mer), “Boum”, “Gentle France” (Douce France), or “What is left of our Love?” (Que reste-t-il de nos amours?).

A Passions Productions event, the Bastille Day Los Angeles Festival promotes the French heritage and culture, and celebrates the undying ties between French and American citizens. In France, Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789, marking the beginning of the French revolution. In Los Angeles, the event is one of the most attended community festivals and has been since its inception. The idea of great French food, music, art, dance, people, and the summer’s sun all together for one day to celebrate France’s Independence is a beautiful idea… and Angelenos agree, nine years and growing. Throughout the day, they come to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of France right in their own backyard. They thrive on French ‘joie de vivre’, play a game of pétanque, enjoy spectacular live entertainment, follow the waiters’ race, dance, or just sit back and relax while having a French-style 'open air picnic'.

Since French citizens have a passion for Latin music, Yamila Guerra will open the day with caliente Cuban rhythms sure to awaken the crowd. An “Entertainment Las Vegas Style” with award-winning TV personality and crooner Tony Sacca performing world renown French tunes such as “My Way” (Comme d’habitude), or “Beyond The Sea” (La Mer). Momo Casablanca, a former Cirque Du Soleil clown who was taught by the legendary Marcel Marceau, will give spectators a ‘French taste’ of his new one-man show - “The Momo Live Show” - directed by Sebastien Stella, "Water For Elephants” choreographer. Combining comedy, contemporary clown, and highly expressive physical theater Momo’s fearless and intimate style of storytelling explores his early childhood, colorful relatives, and his poignant and funny observations of life in America. The fabulous vocalist Pamela Clay, also known as ‘the rebirth of Edith Piaf’, will bring her gutsy street sound to the Bastille Day stage and without a doubt have Angelenos mesmerized.

Live performers at Bastille Day Los Angeles Festival will include French crooners Jean-Pierre Tibi, Evyn Charles, actor Franck Amiack, Inspirational Reggae/Soul Singer/Songwriter Desmond, ‘diamond in the rough’ vocalist Gabrielle Wortman and a powerhouse minimalist duo singing original French songs, Nadine et Terence. Also on stage throughout he day: young French composer Yael, the band Fairfax, ad-lib singer Jason Esler, French alternative singer Astrid Chevallier, and much more.

The Bastille Day Los Angeles Festival is sponsored by: Diabolo Sophisticated Soda, Dish Network, Do You Tropez, Duvel beers, France Today, KPFK 90.7FM, Kronenbourg 1664, Lillet, Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Mimis Café, Nestlé Waters (Perrier -Panna), The Club Culinaire of French Cuisine, UFE, Vatel Los Angeles.
