Budweiser Superfest with Scott's Summer Block Party seeks opening act

Budweiser, Live Nation Entertainment and Haymon Events announced today the return of Budweiser Superfest featuring Grammy® Award-winning R&B soul singer Jill Scott for a month-long, nationwide concert tour beginning July 26 in Boston. Tickets are on sale now for the hottest party of the summer: Budweiser Superfest Presents: Jill Scott’s Summer Block Party.

The Budweiser Superfest, produced by Live Nation Entertainment-Haymon Ventures, LLC brings Scott’s neosoul groove to amphitheaters around the country beginning July 26 through August 28. Budweiser Superfest concert tickets are available at http://www.livenation.com/ and http://www.ticketmaster.com/.

The Live Nation-Haymon Ventures, LLC promoted concert tour features Scott’s classic hits and songs from her just-released and highly anticipated fifth studio album The Light of the Sun, including the high charting radio single “So in Love.”

“Budweiser Superfest is back and better than ever with Jill Scott’s unique brand of urban soul,” said Bryan Hammonds, Budweiser Brand Manager. “This year builds on the successful 2010 revival of Superfest as Budweiser continues to bring great concerts to music fans in cities nationwide.”

Scott will be joined by special guests, Grammy® nominated R&B singer Anthony Hamilton and groove specialists Mint Condition with music provided by DJ Jazzy Jeff and hosted by Doug E. Fresh.

“With its long-standing legacy and strong brand in the soul and R&B communities nationwide, we’re leveraging our distribution network to expand the festival’s reach among new and returning fans,” said Russell Wallach, President, Live Nation Network. “We’re proud to join Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch in bringing the venerable music celebration to fans in 17 major markets this summer.”

In the spirit of making a difference in local communities, Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch is celebrating the performances by donating $150,000 from its Foundation to UNCF (United Negro College Fund); presented as $10,000 scholarships in 15 of the 17 Superfest concert cities. The scholarships will be awarded to local students attending a UNCF school.

The Anheuser-Busch Foundation also supports UNCF’s national programs bringing its total UNCF contributions to $250,000 in 2011. A-B has supported UNCF for more than three decades, initially as the founding sponsor of the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars telethon.

Budweiser is again searching for local talent (21+) in select Superfest cities to compete in its “Opening Act” competition, this year powered by MySpace Music. Winners will earn a chance to be the opening act for the Budweiser Superfest, show tickets and cash in select markets. Competitions will take place in the weeks prior to each concert. Go to www.myspace.com/budweiseropeningact to enter and review the contest rules. Watch the video with advice from Darien, last year’s contest winner, who is featured in Budweiser radio ads currently airing nationwide.

At the conclusion of the Budweiser Superfest tour, music fans may go to www.myspace.com/budweiseropeningact to view performances by the local winners to vote for their favorite. The 2011 “Opening Act” grand prize winner will receive $25,000.

Budweiser Superfest is one of the most celebrated Soul and R&B concert series of all-time. The revived Budweiser Superfest launched in 2010 with an 18-city tour. During its more than two decade run – 1979 through 1999 – the original Budweiser Superfest featured musical legends, such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, TLC, Parliament, Luther Vandross and many others.
