Premier Byrds tribute band, The Byrds Collective will be returning to The Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, California on August 4, 2011. Those who haven't seen the band perform lately will be treated to a couple of welcome changes.
First of all, a new Gene Clark, in the name of Chuck Maiden, has been introduced in the lineup. Chuck's vocals bring a truer Byrds-like sound to the band. He is a local singer-songwriter with two solo albums to his credit.
Another new twist is the addition of covers by other artists. The Byrds Collective thought it would be interesting to perform songs by artists who were either influenced by folk-rock pioneers, The Byrds or who, themselves, influenced the band. So, along with accurate performances of Byrds favorites, audiences are now being served up classics by The Beatles, Neil Young, Tom Petty, and more. Some of these are covers The Byrds have performed.
The Byrds Collective have recently wowed audiences at Topanga Days, Lake Arrowhead and Paso Robles—all shows concluding with standing ovations. On August 14 they will perform at The Orange County Fair. Don't miss this them at The Coffee Gallery Backstage on August 4. They are not your typical tribute band. They offer something that is unique to our culture in Southern California and is deeply rooted in popular music all around the world.
