Today, MillionYoung releases the album Amancer via iTunes with three exclusive never-before-released tracks: “Recess”, “Albedo”, and “Mien (Revisited)”. The brand new songs come as he is finishing his upcoming, still untitled album, which will be released in Fall 2012. The reissued part of Amanecer is a compilation of tracks from MillionYoung's (a.k.a. Mike Diaz) Day We Met and Sunndreamm, plus three bonus songs.
MillionYoung says: “I see Amanecer as a chance to share all of my early work. At the beginning, I was pretty much just writing song after song and never gave a thought to them all being on a record, but I look back at it all now, and they do fit in a certain way, even if just to me. It's called Amanecer, meaning "to wake", cause that's what I felt at the time. Those songs exist in that space where you're in bed debating whether that dream was real or not. I think the upcoming record finds itself in a more lucid state. Yeah, it's reverbed, delayed, and familiar a lot of ways, but it's driven more by the finding of real love than an abstract dream of it.”
MillionYoung made a mixtape for The Guardian's 1,000th “New Band of the Day” entry, which you can listen to HERE. Throughout 2010, MillionYoung toured the Midwest and East Coast multiple times, including several shows during SXSW and CMJ and hit the West Coast with recording sessions for KEXP, Daytrotter and Yourstru.ly along the way.
MillionYoung produced the soundtrack for the first Galaxy Explorer video game, an "experimental and innovative multi-browser adventure designed to change how we think of browsers and how developers build them."
The Hood Internet mashed up MillionYoung's standout song "Sentimental" mixed with YG's "Toot It and Boot It", which will come out at a later time.
"Replicants explores further and asks more questions of itself than most albums. It finds itself in dark alleys, smoke-filled dancefloors or on sun-drenched beaches. From start to finish the album progresses at a tremendous rate, assimilating styles and sounds, moving through the knee-high water created by its own wash at speed."
