Hard presents Flying Lotus in LA June 1

HARD EVENTS—the world-renowned event and festival producer recognized for landmark festivals such as HARD Summer, HARD Day of the Dead and the three-day electronic music cruise Holy Ship!!!—has teamed up with Los Angeles producer/beatsmith Flying Lotus for a special hometown show. Set for June 1 at the House of Blues Sunsetin Los Angeles, Flying Lotus—leader of the LA beat scene movement and founder of tastemaker record label Brainfeeder—will be joined by producers and fellow Brainfeeder artists Thundercat and Teebs for a guaranteed night full of mind-warping bass and elegant electronics. Tickets for the show are available now at Ticketmaster ( and Flavorus (

Flying Lotus last released his critically acclaimed full-length albumUntil The Quiet Comes on Warp Records. Heralded by media outlets worldwide, including New York Times, Filter, Pitchfork and countless others, Until The Quiet Comes was immediately recognized as one of the best albums of 2012. Clash Music (U.K.) dubbed the album “a masterpiece,” while Exclaim! (Canada) called it “one of the most rewarding and beautiful albums of the year.” The album was proclaimed “the sound of the future” by NME (U.K.) and BBC Music (U.K.) said the album catapulted Flying Lotus “into the cosmos and away from all things terrestrial. He's the king of his domain, and there is no runner-up.”

Until the Quiet Comes—featuring guests Erykah Badu, Laura Darlington, Niki Randa, Thundercat and Thom Yorke—has the distinct feel of a nocturnal trip. From the twitching descent into a subconscious state and the out-of-focus time-ether of the journey that follows, the sound is an unhinged, yet elegant evolution of the melodic and rhythmic interplay that is woven into the DNA of Flying Lotus’ aural personae.

Supporting Flying Lotus on this show is Los Angeles bassist/songwriter/vocalist Thundercat, who is releasing his forthcomingsecond album Apocalypse digitally June 4 and physically July 9 onBrainfeeder Records. Thundercat just released “Oh Sheit It’s X,”featured on Apocalypse, which sees him reteam with co-writers/co-producers Mono/Poly and Flying Lotus as they kick up the funk and get ready to party. The track is available for download instantly with album preorders via iTunes and is available via stream on SoundCloud: Forever a wildcat and wild card, Thundercat is impossible to tame artistically. His 2011 solo debut The Golden Age of Apocalypse, co-produced by Flying Lotus, created a genre-blurring enigma of indie rock and jazz with a touch of electronica. On Apocalypse,Thundercat brings a fusion of pop, soul, electronica, prog rock and funk into an unexplored dimension. He again pairs up with executive producerFlying Lotus to pull the veil back and reveal the simple truths of the cycle of life, for all its beauty and destruction. It’s an album about loss and rebuilding, trying to gain something back, and capturing that moment of clarity where one finally finds feet back on the ground again.

Joining the party is Los Angeles producer Teebs. A member of theBrainfeeder crew, Teebs last released Collections 01, a menagerie of songs containing specific elements that give it a unique character. Featuring tracks with harpist Rebekah Raff and Brainfeeder cohort Austin Peralta, Collections 01 offers a range of sentiment, always elegantly displayed. From hypnotic, dust-covered beats and languid daydreams to cascading shuffles and bright bursts of color, this beautiful collection is a further glimpse into the world behind the mind’s eye ofTeebs, painter of sound. Born in New York to Malawi and Barbados origins, Teebs bounced around the East Coast before finally planting his feet in the Southern California suburb of Chino Hills. Through great focus and vision, Teebs made a name for himself as a skilled painter. His artwork found on canvases of all form, from walls to record covers, become imbued with vibrant color, energy, and shape. Teebs was accepted into the Red Bull Music Academy for their 2008 edition inBarcelona, Spain. Upon arrival back home, Teebs became even more focused on his music and art. A chance meeting with another Red Bull Music Academy alumnus Flying Lotus led to his involvement and joining of the newly founded Brainfeeder collective. Having previously heard from local producers and DJs about this new up and comer, Flying Lotus didn’t hesitate to take Teebs under his wing after hearing some of his earliest beats.
