Missouri-born, Los Angeles-bred storyteller, Little Lonely (www.littlelonely.com), aka Julie Cain, announced today that her eponymous folk-Americana full-length debut will be available on June 25, 2013 on CD and via digital download. A record release show and tour dates will be announced shortly.
Produced by multi-instrumentalist, Sean Hoffman (American Music Club, Loch&Key, Linda Perhacs) Little Lonely combines the plaintive wail of Maria McKee, Julee Cruiseand Hope Sandoval with the soft hush of a loping steel string horizon, echo-drenched guitars and girl group swagger. She describes her inspiration as "…a train ride time machine with brief encounters with Cole Porter, Peggy Lee, Kris Kristofferson, Patti Smith and Nick Cave.” It’s a strange, surreal take on UFOs, the Foxy Lady Tavern, tweakers, zombies and mini-bars – and that’s just on the loping track “Buttonwillow”.

While this may be the debut from Little Lonely, it’s not this little sweetheart of the rodeo’s first foray into music. Julie Cain began her musical career by playing the organ at a funeral home in a suburb of Kansas City. Later, she explored country music through a persona in college known as Bitsy Lee. At its essence, Bitsy Lee was performance art inspired by Cain’s ancestors who roamed the Midwest playing in honky-tonks.
Performing as Bitsy Lee, Cain found a way to imagine her life as if she’d never made her move to California at age 18. Importantly, she also caught the attention of producers,Hoffman, and, prior to that, Greg Eklund (Everclear, The Oohlas) and Geoff Walcha (Everclear, Ben Harper) who co-produced her EP (2005), Interstate Hum. Described as "moody, subtle, intelligent and, just occasionally, a little bit Patsy Cline" by Americana UK, the project led to quite a few music placements in feature films Broken Hill, starringTimothy Hutton and Hurt, starring Melora Walters. Picture Show (2011), Cain’s self-produced demo with guest performances by Dead Kennedys’ East Bay Ray & Chuck Lindo (Actionslacks), yielded placement in the short film My Own Private Demon.
Little Lonely features accomplished musicians from the world of Indie-Rock, Folk and Americana circles in Los Angeles. These include: Darice Bailey (The Broken West, The Coals), Nic Chaffee (Eels, George Clinton), Greg Eklund (Everclear, The Oohlas), Joey Galvan (Pete Anderson), Eric Heywood (The Pretenders, Son Volt), Baskerville Jones (The Rebirth), Robby Marshall (John Daversa Band), Heather McIntosh (Norah Jones, Gnarls Barkley), George Sluppick (The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Mofro).
