Shimmy Showcase Sunday in Long Beach

SHIMMY SHOWCASE presents the third annual “In Memoriam.”

Coordinator Saviya will be joined by dancers Kamar, Lylli, Najma, Deborah, and Sarah al Nour in sharing their memories of individuals whom they have loved or honored through their own unique, personal dance interpretation. Won’t you please come and be part of our Shimmyshowcase community on this special Memorial Day eve and honor someone who blessed your life.

Everyone is invited to this cozy haven for a relaxing evening among friends. Select your favorite beverage, hot or cold, from an assortment of coffees, teas, smoothies or juice; add to that a tasty sandwich or pastry; and then seat yourself alongside our magic carpet to enjoy some really great dancing at NO cover charge!

The SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins at 7 p.m. at the COFFEE HAVEN in Long Beach (1708 E. Broadway -- 562-437-3785).

May 31: Abraiha presents the beautiful May, Asaleh, Akiko and Jennelah at Shimmyshowcase.

June 7: The scent of incense; the sound of chimes—Saviya brings “Asian Spice” to Coffee Haven with Delilah, Devon, Saphira, Gaea, and Richie bringing their own unique interpretations of the mystery and enchantment of the Far East to the Shimmyshowcase magic carpet. Please come join us for a mystical and exotic evening.

June 14: No Shimmyshowcase this weekend due to Cairo Caravan. You can see Shimmyshowcase dancer Najma perform at Cairo Caravan (Saturday, 2:11 pm).

June 21: The long, hot days of summer are upon us, and the cooler evenings offer refreshing relief and a time for fantasy and magic. Alexiis presents a Mid-Summer Night’s Dream with live music by ANSUZ. Dancers Madrid, Masa, Mariyah Basimah, and Dana will be sharing their dreams and fantasies.

June 28: Coordinator Abraiha presents Nichole, Veronique, Annakiya and Meryem Vani.

July 5: DARK

July 12: Once again, Shimmyshowcase is fortunate to have our favorite band, ANSUZ, playing live music with creative coordinator Saviya and multi-talented Richie performing his magical dance and violin act, and Sabrina will provide another smashing performance as well. July 19: PARTY PARTY PARTY! Coordinator Abraiha celebrates a big milestone birthday with a big bash –and you’re invited. Dancing along with our honored coordinator will be May and other guest dancers.

July 26: Saviya presents “Bluesy Jazz.” Do you like some Jazz in your Blues or some Blues in your Jazz? Or either one straight up? For this theme night, if Blues or Jazz moves you, Saviya invites you to Coffee Haven for a sizzling summer evening of great dancing inspired by a great theme. Performance spots for this popular theme fill up fast, so dancers interested in performing are invited to contact us at shimmyshowcase@yahoogroups.com for a spot.

Since street parking around Coffee Haven is scarce, we recommend you try the perimeter of the park located two blocks west of Coffee Haven at Broadway and Cherry. Please try to arrive before 7:00 PM (earlier if you’re a performer!) as we try not to start the show until everyone has settled with a tasty beverage.
