"Cinderella" coming to Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga

The MainStreet Theatre Company continues its fourth season of high-quality, professional theatre for young audiences, with "Cinderella," opening at the Lewis Family Playhouse January 30 and running through February 13. Mark Rucker directs.

Written in the 1970s, this version of "Cinderella" takes a "fractured fairytale" approach to the age-old rags- to-riches love story.

In this version, the White Rabbit from "Alice in Wonderland", who has fallen through the wrong hole, becomes an integral part of the story, adding a delightful twist to the classic fable.

The creative team, including original composer/lyricist David Coleman is updating the musical for this production. The show will have a new opening, new musical arrangements, and the overall style of the piece will enhance the magical elements inherent in the story. Original book writer Phylis Ravel (formerly Phyllis Ward Fox) will be attending the opening weekend performances.

"I feel like we've discovered a lost jewel, a gem of a show," said Mireya (Murry) Hepner, MainStreet Theatre Company producer. "The script is witty, funny and smart. The music is great, and our production will bring all the magic of the story to life in very surprising ways."

In addition to director Mark Rucker, the creative team includes: Janice Rodgers Wainwright, musical director; Janet Miller, choreographer; Michael C. Smith, scenic design; Brian Gale, lighting; and Angela Balogh Calin, costume design.

"Cinderella" is appropriate for ages six years and up, runs Saturdays at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, and one Sunday matinee Feb. 7 at 1:00 pm., which will also be interpreted in American Sign Language. The City also runs special weekday matinees for school children. Tickets are $16.50 for General admission, $14.50 for Seniors, and $13.50 for Youth up to age 12. Specially priced $8 tickets are available during the Target Family Weekend performances on January 30.
