Script P.I.M.P. launches contest for aspiring screenwriters

Aspiring writers have already submitted more than 1000 screenplays, but Script P.I.M.P. (Pipeline into Motion Pictures) is still calling for submissions to its eighth annual international screenwriting contest. Submissions will be accepted until May 1 (the early submission deadline was March 1). Twenty talented finalists will be announced July 1. Four grand prize winners will be revealed July 25.

What’s at stake? 2010 contest participants are competing for more than $100,000 in cash and prizes, and the opportunity to have their work read by a qualified judging panel composed of literary agents, development executives, managers and producers.

“ScriptPimp.com’s core mission is to assist aspiring writers with an array of resources with which to improve their craft, and to provide professionals with the tools they need to succeed in a highly competitive marketplace,” said Chadwick Clough, CEO of Script P.I.M.P., LLC and a veteran producer of feature films who has lectured on screenwriting and entrepreneurship at USC and UCLA. “Since 2002, this contest has been a pointed way to break through the noise and generate industry attention for a select number of truly great, production-worthy scripts each year.”

In the preliminary evaluation rounds, all contest judges are current Script Pimp Writers Workshop readers, ensuring that they are experienced, and that they have been “pre-screened” as the organization has been working with them for several years. Likewise, Script P.I.M.P. carefully screens every company that requests to review finalists with the goal of ensuring validity and legitimacy.

All finalists can look forward to “Hollywood VIP” treatment. Script P.I.M.P. executives work one-on-one with the writers of the contest-winning screenplays, offering to read and review more of their work, set up mentor meetings with consultants, and give advice regarding whatever questions they may have about the industry.

Submission guidelines and competition rules are available online at http://www.scriptpimp.com.

Twenty finalists will be announced July 1 once contest entrants are contacted via phone and e-mail.

The Script P.I.M.P. awards show will be held July 25 at Writers Boot Camp in Santa Monica, and attended by more than 100 industry executives and talent managers in addition to the 20 contest finalists and their guests.

“Part networking event, part awards show, and part one-day seminar, the Script P.I.M.P awards is an event not to be missed,” said Clough. “Four grand prize winners will see their writing careers launch to new heights.”

Many past Script P.I.M.P. contest and Workshop participants have gone on to see their work optioned, sold, and/or produced. In 2008, Grand Prize winner Evan Daugherty landed a major studio assignment as a direct result of winning the Script P.I.M.P. contest. A 2004 Writers Workshop submission from Brian Watanabe, “Rogues Gallery” is an action-thriller that revolves around two rival teams of government assassins. The film, directed by Fouad Mikati and starring Zach Galifianakis and Rob Corddry, is scheduled for a third quarter release in 2010. U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia and New Zealand distribution rights recently sold to Anchor Bay Films.
