CHICUS
(REDBUD Records / NYC)
Chicus founded Redbud Records ten years ago as a home for a dubwise fusion of the deepest reggae sounds, dancehall vibes and digital beat futurism. Keeping an ear to both the streets of Brooklyn and to European dancefloors, Chicus is best known for combining theborough's rich reggae tradition with a keen sense of the new, creating aunique and unmistakable sound in all of his productions and DJ sets around the world.
Chicus has been making a name with his genre-defying mashups under the pseudonym Black Locust, mixing up artists such as Justin Timberlake, T-Pain and Sean Paul into original versions that capture his trademark sound. Chicus recently co-founded Dither Down Records, with members of the band 33Hz. Blendingtheir love of Indie Pop with Disco, Dub, 80s electro and House,Dither Down releases feature songs by up and coming New York artists and pairs them with the best new remixers from around the world.

SAADI
(live)
That Saadi’s musical history reads like something out of a V.S. Naipaul novel is incidental. As the (entirely true) legend goes, Boshra al Saadi was born in Syria, sojourned in suburban Pennsylvania for a spin in Catholic school, ventured to NYC’s Greenwich Village in her late teens with folksinger dreams, and cut her teeth as co-frontwomanfor indie rock band Looker, before setting out on her own. It’s an enchanting backstory no doubt, but it merely hints at the edges of the spirit of the songstress. Saadi’s relaxed, yet electro-happy brand of indie pop transcendsera, simultaneously redolent of no wave, new romantic, afro disco, shoegaze, dancehall reggae, post punk, and that ever-present other. Her voice possesses that rare blend of churning passion and disembodied detachment. It’s no surprise she cites Brian Eno as an influence, as her radiant sounds hearken both the 1970s pop-savvy and the latter-day electronic experiments of that musical wizard.
Saadi's dancehall cover of Below The Waist by Queen Ifrica, which appears on the mixtape, will be released as a7" early next month on Chicus' Redbud Records and her new original ep CLOTHESLINES (featuring remixesfrom LEMONADE, douster, Lazyflow & Daniel Haaksman) is coming out Worldwide October 26th onDither Down.
