That’s how some of Australia’s biggest magazines, newspapers and radio stations have raved about the new self-titled album by BIRDS OF TOKYO--singer Ian Kenny (who’s also the singer for Karnivool), guitarist/producer Adam Spark, drummer of Adam Weston and bassist Anthony Jackson.

BIRDS OF TOKYO is an album that carries with it the weight of one man’s world...the entire emotional gamut of a love lost, and the broken heart it left in its wake; set to music of depth and complexity. And it is this journey into such deeply personal territory that makes this the band’s most resonant album, because broken hearts are universal and timeless.

It’s actually the group's third studio album, but it’s already their most critically acclaimed, which helps explain why it had their highest ever chart debut and was certified Gold in its first month of release. The epic disc debuted at #1 on the Australian Independent charts last month and came within a whisker of toppling Eminem from the top of the national Top 100 rankings thanks to the group’s first genuine hit single, “Plans,” which is ensconced in the continent’s iTunes’ Top 10.

With the buzz from Australia ringing loud enough to reach the States, it’s time for the other side of the world to hear what it’s all about, and with that comes the global release of BIRDS OF TOKYO on iTunes. A U.S. label deal is currently in the works on the back of raves from savvy local bloggers, Stateside airplay on college, satellite and non-commercial radio, plus some early TV sync placements.

The disc was created in Sydney, Gothenburg and New York City, with producer Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets, Sleepy Jackson) and mixer Michael Brauer (Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, Phoenix) along with guitarist Adam Spark, who served as one of the album’s producers. Armed with an inextinguishable sense of adventure and a powerhouse work ethic, the team took to making the album with the same sense of dynamic flair and daring that infuses their music.

In touring news, the overwhelming response to BIRDS OF TOKYO's new music coincides with tickets going on-sale for their biggest ever Australian concert tour from September 22 – October 2. The shows are all selling fast with over 5,000 tickets going out the door across the nation in just the first 24 hours. Special guests Silversun Pickups and The Chemist will join the line-up for all shows excluding Perth on October 2, where The Emperors will join the show. BIRDS OF TOKYO hope to bring their to U.S. shores in the coming months.

What the album is, and what it is about, is only a small part of the story. BIRDS OF TOKYO are, after all, a collective of individuals--each with their own story to tell, and their own significant mark on the band and its art. There is the voice of Ian Kenny; one of Australia’s most sincerely talented vocalists and humblest of gentlemen.
