IKEA offers opportunity to spend one year helping others

To empower people to improve the lives of others in their community, IKEA has launched the Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest offering one person the chance to win a year-long sabbatical (worth $100,000) to advance a project that improves the life of others. Whether you’d like to volunteer at a homeless shelter to start a non-profit organization, this contest gives one winner the opportunity to pursue their passions, and share their experience with the world.

From September 14 - November 8, 2010, those that are interested can submit their Life Improvement proposal online at www.thelifeimprovementproject.com. Five finalists will be chosen from submissions by a panel of judges, and announced on December 13, 2010. The winner will be determined by public vote, and announced on January 31, 2011.

IKEA, The Life Improvement Store, launched this contest as part of their commitment to helping provide a better everyday life for the many. It is part of their new national program - The Life Improvement Project - to inspire people to create a better everyday life at home and in their communities. The program also consists of:

A series of free Life Improvement Store Seminars hosted in IKEA stores across the U.S. focused on improving life at home.

A Life Improvement Co-Worker Challenge, a tandem internal contest giving IKEA employees (co-workers) the opportunity to win $10,000 to support a local community initiative of their choice.
