"The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same."
About Afro Funke' Night Club
The weekly club, Afro Funke', which will be crossing its tenth anniversary in May 2013, was the brainchild of Afro Roots star, Rocky Dawuni, who realized LA's need for a night dedicated to African music, culture and art and it's far reaching legacy around the world. Dawuni, who's based in LA and his native Ghana, together with talent booker and photographer Cary Sullivan created Afro Funke', bringing on board resident DJ and partner DJJeremy Sole.DJ Glenn Redwas invited to be the second resident DJ and is an integral part of the Afro Funke' Sound.
Each week Afro Funke’ presents international guest DJs, live band performances, guest musicians, dancers, cutting edge films, record release parties, fundraisers, fashion shows, art installations, crafts and more. Sole spins his unique “Musaics,” or sound collage-blends of hip hop, jazz/funk, dub reggae, afro beat, and remixed world beats; pieced together with tribal breaks, and uplifted by dubbed-out turntable manipulation and live instrumentation.
I live for adventure! I've been in rock bands, movies, plays and on TV. I adore animals, motorcycles get my heart racing and I also have a passion for sushi and ice cream (not at the same time). I was the Queen of the 31st Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade. I am also a professional belly dancer (swords are my speciality), a Polynesian/Tahitian dance student and a full-time journalist. Here, I'll share some of my life- who I meet and where I go in the music scene, as well as music news, and any other intriguing people, places and things I come across. **PLEASE NOTE: Here I will also post excerpts from press releases I receive with information on upcoming entertainment events and news.** Welcome and keep on rockin'!
