Mree to release album

Experimental folk songstress Mree announces the release of her 12 track sophomore album, Winterwell on August 6. Taking her original inspirations from Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens and Fionn Regan, Mree adds a dash of electronic music to her sophomore effort, highly evident on the first single “Into the Well”

Born Marie Hsiao, Mree’s musical expedition began in New Jersey at the tender age of five when she started playing the piano. Over the years, her songwriting and composition skills developed leading her to posting covers (including her version of Bon Iver’s “Michicant” and The Middle East’s “Blood”, both of which were endorsed by Justin Vernon on twitter) on her Youtube channel which now boasts 50,000 subscribers and more than 6 million views. Her self-produced debut single “Against The Current” from her first album, Grow - which premiered at #18 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart -  was released in 2011, garnering the attention of songwriter and producer David Choi landing her on the homepage of Youtube. The title track from Grow went on to win the award for "Best Song" at the Jersey Acoustic Music Awards, and Mree was featured as a “Rising Artist” at the 2012 Grammy Career Day by the Grammy Foundation.

Currently a full time student at New York University’s Clive Davis School of Recorded Music, Mree draws influences from Sigur Ros, Miike Snow and Imogen Heap on her sophomore album to create an aural experience filled with ambient folk sound and electronic influences.
