Acute is on tour

Having recently landed on the indie radar, Los Angeles' ACUTE--ISAAC LEKACH (vocals/guitars), PATRICK EDWARDS (drums) JASON "The Professor" BORGER (keyboards/backing vocals) MATT HERMAN (bass)--are heading out on a West Coast tour. Building on the strong critical acclaim for their debut album ARMS AROUND A STRANGER on indie HELP Records, the trek includes two Los Angeles area shows: Thursday, October 11 at the Hotel Café and Thursday, October 18 at Spaceland. Armed with their "fuzzy guitars and sharp as Ginsu-songcraft" (Spin, May 2007), the group has performed alongside artists such as Jesse Malin, The Appleseed Cast, Chuck Ragan, Copeland, MeWithoutYou, Owen, Chase Pagan, Starsailor and Kate Havnevik, among many others.

"Orch pop" is how the Los Angeles Times described the music on ARMS AROUND A STRANGER, which was produced by Dave Trumfio (Wilco, My Morning Jacket). "The songs boast lavish orchestration-strings, horns, backing vocals (including a cameo by The Like's Z Berg), pedal steel and Wurlitzer--that gives the record a cinematic quality" (5-3-07).

Here's more critical praise for ARMS AROUND A STRANGER:

ALTERNATIVE PRESS "...from the tuneful Zombies-esque piano pop of 'Trouble' to 'The City,' where Cars-flavored keyboards and chugging guitars were apparently just what they needed. The band really work the Wall Of Sound on the ballads, bringing chamber strings, pedal steel, harpsichord, flute and a whistling solo to 'Saint' and making the most of a moody cello on the melancholy 'Rush To It,' where no one's rushing anywhere." (5/2007)

CAMPUS CIRCLE: "...frenzied guitars with upbeat melodies." (7/4/07)

NEW YORK POST "The fuzzy guitars and poppy vocals in 'Follow You Home' by indie pop act Acute are reminiscent of a certain band fronted by Rivers Cuomo, but Acute ditches the lovelorn loser vibe to sing about getting even with someone via old-school fisticuffs." (6/5/07)

FLAVORPILL: "Tour-scarred troubadours Acute bring their loud, hook-addled precision jams. ...irresistible, intricate grooves that both rawkers and gawkers alike can love." (9/24/07)

GOLDMINE "...indie-pop that's sweet as candy, rich in variety and multi-layered for the discerning listener." (6/2007)

WESTWORD (Denver, CO) "Building on the eclectic songwriting Acute displayed on its 2006 EP, the act continues to craft catchy pop hooks that hit home like a late-afternoon caffeine buzz." (4/5/07)

ORLANDO WEEKLY "...the big indie-rock sound of L.A.'s Acute is limber enough to move from gentle Western twangs to Sugar's brawny melodicism to myriad other respectable alt-rock references." (6/29/07)

ALL MUSIC GUIDE "...Acute goes about penning memorable alt-pop the good old fashioned way -- that lasts the full duration of an entire album. With the majority of up-and-coming rock bands seeming concerned primarily with getting their look just right for photo shoots rather than penning an album's worth of memorable songs, Arms Around A Stranger shows that Acute is one of the few exceptions." (6/2007)

ALBUQUERQUE TRIBUNE "This L.A. trio specializes in heavily synthesized pop/rock soundscapes, which often delve into straight-ahead power pop ('The City'). The baritone vocals can be haunting and seductive...There are endless pop melodies to spare ('Trouble') and gratifying wordplay throughout, as on the up-tempo love song 'Take a Step Back'." (6/22/07)

THE ROCK IT! (LA, CA) "The band is like a morning cup-o-joe with somber tones and moody melodies gradually opening your eyes, while the inclusion of string and brass sections catch you off guard. Acute is also like the cricket in your house that you cannot seem to find; you hear its sound, you are intrigued by its melody and something about it is precious." (7/2007)

JERSEY BEAT: "On Arms Around a Stranger, Acute concocts a thick, heavy, sometimes aggressive guitar sound that brings out lead vocalist Isaac Lekach striking vocals. And for good reason: Isaac's songs are tales of love and confusion that are perfectly suited to his dry, sardonic voice." (8/2007)
