Portugal. The Man announces final leg of tour

In support of the critically-acclaimed release "Church Mouth," Portugal. The Man announces the third - and final - leg of their 2007 concert itinerary. Once their current run with Rocky Votalto ends on October 20, P.TM will play a series of headline dates and then join up with the post-hardcore band Thursday in Worcester, MA on November 1 for about two week's worth of shows.
Portugal. The Man is proving to be one of the hardest-working indie/rock bands on the planet; by the time they hunker down for the holidays, they will have played more than 160 concerts around the globe, including two tours of Europe, just this year.
Portugal. The Man - John Baldwin Gourley (vocals, guitars, synthesizers, programming), Zachary Scott Carothers (bass, vocals, percussion), and Jason Sechrist (drums, congas, percussion, vocals) - has been one of the most buzzed-about indie-rock up-and-comers, especially since the July release of "Church Mouth." The album put the band onto the Billboard charts for the first time in their career, having debuted at lucky #13 on the trade's Top Alternative New Artists chart. Additionally, "Church Mouth" has received spectacular national, regional, local and online press -
"FOUR AND A-HALF STARS"/Alternative Press,
"…compelling music that’s actually worth the buzz it’s generating"/OC Weekly,
“Portugal. The Man suggests the sort of thing a young Led Zeppelin might have done in 2007..."/Arizona Republic,
and “Portugal. The Man is one of the most unique and original groups of current time"/AbsolutePunk.com.
A Portugal. The Man show is usually never what you quite expect, truly never the same night after night, and these upcoming concerts should prove to be no different. The band utilizes a compelling light show to create various moods and a balance of abstract esotericism and vivid metal imagery, and guest musicians tend to jump on stage for a song or two. Expect to hear a selection of new songs from "Church Mouth" as well as songs from the band's 2006 album, "Waiter: You Vultures!"
"Church Mouth," a departure from the drum-machine and sequencer-heavy "Waiter: You Vultures!," is an organic record that transcends genre constraints by managing to recall seemingly disparate acts such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the White Stripes, the Mars Volta, and Santana. Lyrically, the schizophrenic-sounding "Church Mouth" centers on political and religious imagery. From the funky soul-prog feel of "Sugar Cinnamon" (think an updated version of the MC5), to the psychedelic groove of "Oh Lord," to more melody-driven yet equally intense rockers like the title track and "Children," and the hauntingly exquisite "Shade." Portugal. The Man's unique sound has its roots firmly in front man/songwriter Gourley's abstract vision and unique upbringing.
Gourley was raised in a remote log cabin on the outskirts of Wasilla, Alaska that was powered by a generator and had no phone. His mom and dad doubled as a team of dog sled mushers. Add in an extended period of homelessness, a love of science fiction and a desire to make music that does not sound like every other band, and the genesis of Portugal. The Man was formed. Gourley and childhood friend Carothers formed P.TM in 2003 with Portland, OR's Jason Sechrist joining in 2005.
To this day, P.TM employs a rotating cast of guest musicians outside of the core three. Gourley is also an accomplished visual artist having created the stunning artwork for the "Church Mouth" package as well as P.TM's previous releases, tour posters, t-shirts and other items.
