An extraordinary year of chart-topping success, sold-out concerts, wide critical acclaim, special award recognition and devoted humanitarian work will conclude this fall with a wealth of activity for Ricky Martin. Throughout this year, Martin’s “Black & White Tour” has performed to capacity audiences at stadiums and arenas throughout Latin America, Europe, Canada and The United States.
The tour was described by The Miami Herald as “a spectacular production [that] showed Martin’s not only kept his star status, he's deepened and solidified his artistry [and is] more in command of the stage than ever.” Likewise, La Opinion declared “Ricky Martin was Electrifying... [He] showed maturity-and sensuality… Martin left both his soul and a lot of sweat upon the stage after an exhilarating concert.”
Now, fans will be able to both enjoy the energy of the Black & White Tour at home, and have a second opportunity to witness the show on U.S. stages. On November 6th, SONY/BMG NORTE will release CD, DVD, and combined CD/DVD versions of “Ricky Martin Live – Black & White Tour” – recorded during Martin’s record attendance-setting performances in Puerto Rico.
In addition to an accompanying two hour television special set to air in October on Telemundo and November on Mun2, fans will also be able to catch Martin in-person when the tour’s second U.S. leg arrives in arenas starting this weekend (see dates below).
The success of the tour however, is just part of the story of Martin’s special year. Having already been honored as “King” of the 50th Anniversary of the National Puerto Rican Parade, the Latin American Association of Entertainment Journalists “Artist of the Year,” and the 2006 Latin Recording Academy “Person of the Year”, Martin is deeply appreciative of the recognition from his musical peers for the FOUR Latin Grammy nominations recently received for the critically praised/ #1 album Ricky Martin: MTV Unplugged and its long-running #1 smash single “Tu Recuerdo”. Placing Martin among this year’s most nominated artists, the categories in which he has been recognized are: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal, Best Long Form Video. In addition, Martin is thrilled at the recent news that he will receive a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. The presentation of Martin’s star is set to take place on October 16th on famed Hollywood Blvd.
