Today Robb Royer, founding member of 70s rock sensation Bread and Academy Award winning songwriter (1970 Best Song, “For All We Know” – Lovers & Others Stangers), announced the official launch of NashFilms Records.
“It seems like the record industry has withdrawn inside the castle walls and left us civilians to fight the battles on our own,” comments Royer on the opening of his new company.
NashFilms was originally meant to stand as its own motion picture production company. Royer’s background as a producer and director gave him the perfect qualifications to successfully launch a portion of the entertainment industry that Nashville lacks. However, when a 21-year-old Karissa Hope la Cour came into view, the company’s future dramatically shifted.
“She’s just the whole package… singer, songwriter and quite a versatile character who seems to subject herself to my orchestral schemes” says Royer.
With Nashville’s independent record label population growing by leaps and bounds, Royer decided to form his own company with a different approach, which is a musical genre that is more fitting to his own background… pop/rock. NashFilms flagship artist Karissa is just that. With her current single “Moved By The Music” climbing the nation’s dance charts, Royer is already seeing his company gain ground.
NashFilms, located in the heart of Nashville’s ‘Music Row,’ is equipped with an in-house studio and video production bay, allowing the company to complete all works internally and without delay. Royer has strategically hired a capable and effective team to bring the company’s future closer to success. Jessie Royer-Holmes heads up the company’s day-to-day operations, while Harrison Holmes brings all of the production elements together. Royer has hired Nashville publicist Don Murry Grubbs to handle publicity needs, while Joe Mattis, President of SlugFest Records Nashville, has been brought in to act as head of the Advisory Board for the NashFilms label.
Royer starting laying the foundation for the company three years ago. Now in 2009, he and his team hope to hit the entertainment industry hard.
With Karissa making headway, Royer is already working on his next musical venture… a project 18 years in the making entitled, The Finnigan Bros.: The 1990 Sessions.
“This thing is 18 years in the making… I can’t believe we’re finally making it available to the public” notes Royer. “It’s Blues, Americana, Rock and Country all stuffed into one package… The Finnigan Brothers are truly the original outlaw band. Give it a listen and you’ll understand why.”
The Finnigan Bros.: The 1990 Sessions is currently scheduled for a first quarter 2009 release.
