Armory Center for the Arts releases anniversary exhibition catalog

The Armory Center for the Arts announces the release of a limited and numbered edition catalogue celebrating and documenting the Armory’s 20th anniversary exhibition, Installations Inside/Out.

In an edition of only 325 copies, this is the most unique publication ever produced by the Armory and is fashioned as an artist’s book rather than a traditional catalogue. Featuring documentation of all 20 commissioned works in the show, including Bruce Nauman’s ephemeral Untitled, 1969/2009 (LEAVE THE LAND ALONE) skywriting performance, it is printed on unique papers with multiple fold-outs.

The book also contains samples of materials used by some of the artists in their installations, including a hand-cut section of a flag like those used in Daniel Buren’s outdoor installation, A Rainbow in the Sky.

Three hundred catalogues, signed by the exhibition curators Jay Belloli and Sinead Finnerty-Pyne, will sell for $50 each. A separate series of twenty copies will also be signed by artists in the exhibition. The artist-signed edition will sell for $200 each.

Installations Inside/Out artists include Kim Abeles and Ken Marchionno, Edgar Arceneaux, Deborah Aschheim, Daniel Buren, Carl Cheng, Seth Kaufman, Barry McGee, Michael C. McMillen, Carlos Mollura, Matthew Moore, Jane Mulfinger, Bruce Nauman, Rudy Perez, Sarah Perry, Ed Ruscha, Betye Saar, Barbara T. Smith, John Trevino, Pae White, and Mario Ybarra Jr.

Catalogues are available for purchase on-site in the Armory’s Caldwell Gallery, and for a limited time at the Armory’s fair booth at the Los Angeles Art Show, January 21 – 24, in the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center.

The 20th anniversary exhibition is on view through December 31, including the three outdoor installations: Jane Mulfinger at the YWCA building at 78 N. Marengo Ave.; Matthew Moore’s urban transplanter on 733 N. Fair Oaks Ave.; and Barry McGee’s store installation at 2 E. Holly St. in Old Town Pasadena (maps are available at armoryarts.org).

Gallery hours are Tuesday – Sunday, noon - 5 p.m.; outside installations are on view 24 hours/seven days a week.

Armory Center for the Arts is located 145 North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena.

Suggested gallery donation: $5.00. Armory members, students and parents, students with ID, and seniors free.
