The Getty to present Repast Baroque Ensemble concert

The J. Paul Getty Museum presents Repast Baroque Ensemble on Saturday, February 6, as part of its 2010 Gordon Getty Concert Series, featuring early music complementing the acclaimed exhibition Drawings by Rembrandt and His Pupils: Telling the Difference.

Hailed by the New York Times as a "graceful, energetic ensemble," Repast delves into its repertoire to present an evening of music from Rembrandt's Amsterdam. As a cosmopolitan port city and publishing center, this capital of the Netherlands in its golden age enjoyed a musical life that included both native productions and rich contributions from abroad.

Repast is a collaboration of three period-instrument virtuosi presenting vivid renditions of music of the baroque era. Repast members Amelia Roosevelt (baroque violin), John Mark Rozendaal (baroque violoncello and viola da gamba), and Avi Stein (harpsichord), each have active careers in historical performance and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the trio’s programs. Founded in New York City, the ensemble was a finalist in the Early Music America/Naxos Recording Competition in 2003. Since then the group has performed at Bargemusic, the Early Music Society of the Islands in Victoria, B.C., Museum Concerts of Rhode Island, the Times Center, Midtown Concerts, the New York Early Music Celebration, the Staller Center for the Arts, the Lyceum Concert Series, and the Brooklyn Friends Meeting House.

Repast is joined for this performance by violinist Claire Jolivet and soprano Nell Snaidas. One of the country's leading interpreters of baroque and early classical repertoire, Ms. Jolivet has been praised in the New York Times for her "impeccable, thoughtfully shaped, dramatically taut" playing. Ms. Snaidas has been called "a model ofluminous timbre and emotional intensity" by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Repast performs Saturday evening, February 6, when the Museum galleries are open until 9 pm and parking is free after 5 pm, creating a special opportunity to dine, view fine art, and experience a transcendent musical performance that enriches the experience of the Museum’s exhibitions.

Gordon Getty Concert: Repast, Saturday February 6, 2010, 7:30 pm, in the Harold M. Williams Auditorium, Getty Center. Tickets are $20; $15 for seniors and students.
