The Langham Pasadena to offer cooking classes

The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is pleased to announce its schedule for Cooking Classes in 2010, teaching culinary skills to both children and adults in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Children’s classes will take place on the third Saturday of each month and adult classes will be held quarterly with dates in March, June and September.

Children’s Cooking Classes
Pastry Chef John Quinn will lead the series of children’s cooking classes, teaching kids between the ages of seven and 12 to become pastry chefs for the day and explore different culinary creations. Chef Quinn will begin each class with a kitchen tour and safety lesson, and will then teach the young aspiring chefs the art of recipe preparation, baking techniques and pastry presentation.

“We want to build confidence in children who have an interest in cooking and provide encouragement for them to pursue a career in the culinary field,” said Pastry Chef John Quinn. “And, more importantly, we want children to see that cooking is a lot of fun!”

2010 Class Dates & Themes:
February 20 – Chocolate Treats & Candies
March 20 – Gum paste Flowers & Other Décor
April 17 – Crème Puffs & Swans
May 15 – Lemon Squares & Cookies
June 19 – Summer Berry Trifle
July – No Class Scheduled
August – No Class Scheduled
September 18 – Popcorn Balls & Other Treats
October 16 – Halloween Cupcakes & “Scary” Décor
November 20 – Gingerbread Houses

Each two-hour class is $80 per child and is limited to 10 children. Classes begin at 10:00 a.m. and include the day’s recipes, a Langham-branded apron and a chef’s hat.


Adult Cooking Classes
As host and instructor, Chef Loren Lawe will guide the adult class through the art of planning, preparation and presentation of a three-course meal paired with exquisite wines and other beverages. Each class will reflect Chef Lawe’s cooking philosophies, highlighting simplicity of presentation and flavor using the finest seasonal products available in the local area.

March 13 - Asian inspiration
June 12 - Beer and BBQ for Dads
September 11 – Holiday Harvest, including Chef Lawe’s renowned Butternut Squash Soup

Each class is $125 per person, and includes two-hour kitchen instruction, a three-course meal with beverage pairing, recipes of the dishes prepared in class and a Langham-branded apron. Classes are limited to 12 people and begin at 9:30 a.m.
