ABOUT THE SONGSALIVE! WORKSHOPS
Songsalive!, the non-profit organization supporting and promoting songwriters and composers, holds workshops where songwriters gather to share their songs, gain feedback and develop relationships within the songwriting communities we have created around the world. The workshop includes an in-the-round song critique session where writers present one song each - either on tape, CD or live - and receive professional, constructive feedback on your song by a music industry professional (Guest speakers from various arenas of the music industry give their time to give feedback, educate and provide opportunities and insight).
ABOUT THIS MONTH’S TOPIC: Licensing songs in Brand/Advertising campaigns
ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER: ALETHIA AUSTIN
Alethia started her journey in music by writing about and reviewing unknown indie bands that played tiny venues all over Los Angeles. Hundreds of shows and many, many late nights later she joined the two-man crew of A&R Select as an intern when the company was merely one month old. Hard work, long hours and a roaring passion for discovering bands and working with creatives helped Alethia to become a lead player at A&R Select. After two years as VP of Operations, she decided to follow her attraction of music and film and left A&R Select to become a music supervisor. Numerous films and TV shows later, Alethia is working independently on movies and tv shows, as well as consulting for 35 Sound Music Supervision.
ALETHIA IS SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR THESE SONGS BELOW, SO COME WITH YOUR BEST SONG FOR CRITIQUE AND PITCHING.

Check in at http://www.meetup.com/songsalive on the Sun 17th Jan calendar entry to see the updates. If you don't have songs as above, that's ok. She's at the workshop also to provide general critique for your songs, and tips about placing songs.
* * ONLY members can pitch / present a song for this month.
Non-members, only if time permits. Watching is learning!
First timers do not pitch/present.
Also, previous pitches are still available at www.songsalive.org/songshop to pitch to online.

Details on our workshops www.songsalive.org/workshops.
The workshops are open to all songwriters and music composers of all levels and music genres and you don't have to be a Songsalive! member to attend (though preference is given to members and we encourage everyone to join Songsalive! to maximize your opportunities with us). It is essential to register your attendance in advance. Our workshops are a great way for local songwriter members to meet each other, interact and collaborate, as well as seek feedback and critique on their songs in a very supportive setting.
Our workshops are designed for songwriters and composers (from entry level to professional) who have written songs, or are in the songwriting stage, who want to further their craft, gain feedback on their music, and potentially get their songs out to the world. However, we also have singers, musicians, and non music types who attend as it's a great networking opportunity (singers looking for songwriters, or musicians looking for songs, as examples). The goals of the workshop are about 1) the SONG and making it the best it can be 2) providing a community for our members to gather, network, collaborate and learn.

ABOUT CONTACTING OUR GUEST SPEAKERS IN ADVANCE OR AFTER THE WORKSHOP Our guest speakers give their time for free to come speak to you. They all lead busy lives and are not all available to receive unsolicited correspondence or communication. It is recommended to NOT contact the speaker in advance, nor after the workshop, unless they personally want you to. That is, come to our workshop, and if during the workshop they take an interest in creating a relationship with you, then, and only then, should you further communicate. It is bad practice to assume that since a speaker has been our guest, and that you met them through Songsalive!, that they are an open door for you to contact. Please use your best and courteous judgement in making contact. Thank so much for your understanding.
