3 Doors Down and Home Depot to aid veterans

VA Greater Los Angeles (GLA) residential program for veterans on campus at VA West Los Angeles (WLA) called New Directions will welcome rock band 3 Doors Down and The Home Depot foundation on August 24, 2011 from 8:00am – 2:00pm. Volunteers will refurbish building 116 at WLA so veterans and their families that come visit them can enjoy a more comfortable environment as they recover and rebuild their lives.

New Directions provides services for homeless veterans recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and counseling. New Directions provides services to more than 600 men and women a year. New Directions is committed to ending local hunger and homelessness through service coordination, public education, and advocacy.

This event kicks off The Home Depot Foundation’s two-month ‘Celebration of Service,’ a campaign to honor U.S. military veterans, to celebrate their contributions, and provide support to non-profit organizations that serve them. Along with veteran volunteers from The Mission Continues, The Home Depot associates will complete 200 service projects across the country between now and Veterans Day (November 11, 2011).

The band 3 Doors Down, is a long-time supporter of military families, and has joined The Home Depot’s campaign. From September 11, 2011 until November 11, 2011, when you buy a 3 Doors Down’s new CD “Time of My Life” from www.homedepot.com , $1.00 of the sale will go directly to The Home Depot Foundation’s veteran housing initiatives.
