Ravi Shankar in Long Beach Nov. 4

The man who once jammed with the Beatles and who pioneered Eastern music in the Western hemisphere, Ravi Shankar, is set to bring his renowned Indian music to Long Beach Terrace Theater on November 4th at 7:30 PM with special guest and daughter Anoushka Shankar. This event is a promotion of the Ravi Shankar Foundation. The previous concert scheduled for March 25th was postponed due to Mr. Shankar’s illness; all tickets purchased for that date will be honored at the November 4th show.

Shankar is India's most esteemed musical ambassador and prodigious composer. He is a true icon in the classical music worlds of East and West. As a performer, teacher and composer, Shankar has done more for Indian music than any other musician. He is well known for his pioneering work in bringing Indian music to the West.

"Ravi Shankar is the Godfather of World Music" - George Harrison

“It may be hard to imagine that one person through the force of his talent, energy and musical personality could have almost single-handedly altered the course of contemporary music in its broadest sense. But that is actually and simply what happened.”- Philip Glass

Always ahead of his time, Shankar has authored violin-sitar compositions for Yehudi Menuhin. He’s written music for flute virtuoso Jean Pierre Rampal, Japan’s celebrated Shakuhachi player Hozan Yamamoto and for Russian Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich. He has also collaborated with high-profile composer Phillip Glass (Passages). George Harrison produced and participated in three of Shankar’s albums, "Shankar Family & Friends", "Festival of India" and “Chants of India.” Shankar has also composed for ballets and films in India, Canada, Europe and the United States.
