Taking a bold step in the record label industry, pop-rock recording artist and songwriter, Rob Thomas, is teaming up with long-time publishing pal and senior creative of A&R Evan Lamberg. The team has created a record label, entitled R Tel Records, that focuses on artist development without the pressure of economic gains. The latest issue of Billboard, on newsstands now, reports the three-time Grammy-winning artist’s newest undertaking and the details behind R Tel Records:
- Thomas and Lamberg’s newly founded record label, R Tel Records has the support and teamwork of Sony BMG’s Epic Records.
- British singer/songwriter, Garfield Mayer, is the first artist signed under R Tel Records and his release is expected this fall.
- The label aims to have two to three releases each year, yet R Tel isn’t under any delivery or time constraints to keep that benchmark.
- “I’m doing a lot of writing with these artists and helping them produce, but it’s not about me being a producer and having a writing credit on the record. I don’t have to any creative input whatsoever, but I’m definitely here if they want it.” Says Thomas
