Jan Mashonee seeks recipients for Jana's Kids scholarships

With the release of her new album, "New Moon Born," Jana Mashonee, GRAMMY nominee, 7-time Native American Music Award winner and founder of Jana's Kids, is searching for recipients for the third annual Jana's Kids Educational Scholarship for Native Youth.

The scholarship is the only one of its kind in the United States awarded to Native Youth for academic, artistic or athletic achievement. Jana's Kids, a not-for-profit organization, was formed in 2005 to help Native Youth achieve their dreams.

All proceeds from Jana's new single of the Sam Cooke classic "A Change Is Gonna Come" will go towards Jana's Kids Scholarships. The scholarship application for high school seniors can be downloaded from Jana's website -http://www.janamashonee.com - or can be sent by email request.

On January 20, 2009, Jana performed "A Change Is Gonna Come," featuring Juno award-winner Derek Miller, at the American Indian Inaugural Ball for Barack Obama accompanied by the video for the single. On February 20, 2009, the video received the Award of Merit from The Indie Fest Film Festival in La Jolla, California.

In winning an Indie, Jana Mashonee joins the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award.

Indie Fest Chairman Thomas Baker, Ph.D. had this to say about the winners: "The Indie is not an easy award towin. The Indie helps set the standard for craft andcreativity."

Jana's new album, "New Moon Born," a compelling blend of R&B, soul and pop, is slated for release on April 15, 2009 having just been sent out to radio.
