Madame Pamita shows

Madame Pamita muses and announces shows:

I've been inordinately interested in the idea of paddywagons lately. How come they don't use them anymore? And were they called "paddywagons" because of those troublemakin' Irish folk that got hauled away in them or because the cops were Irish? They were also called "the black maria" ("maria" pronounced "muh-RYE-uh") too, but why? So many details to ruminate...

There are so many great old lyrics with mentions of paddywagons..

one of my favorites is Bessie Smith's "Gimme a Pigfoot and a Bottle of Beer" which has been on my hit parade lately. In it, Hannah Brown, the protagonist of the song admonishes, "check all your razors and your guns, we're gonna be wrastlin' when the wagon comes...." ah.. good times! good times!

Gimme me a (soy-based) pigfoot and a bottle of (chardonnay-flavored) beer!

I'm doing a show at Taix and then heading to parts north for some exciting shows in the bay area with the ever-so-delightful Tippy Canoe (who will also be doubling up with her debut on washboard with me). If you're a northerly kinda person (or around Taix on Wednesday), you won't want to miss these shows! Lots of fortune telling and old, weird American music to confound and delight you. T'aint like nothin' you never seen!
