MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY’S NEW RECORDING ARTIST MISHKA TO PLAY MALIBLUE IN SUPPORT OF THE SURFRIDER FOUNDTION! MISHKA dropped his new album on February 17th, 2009!
WHO: j.k. livin, Matthew McConaughey’s new label, is proud to announce its first artist, Mishka. With his roots in the Caribbean and his magnetism towards reggae, Mishka’s soulful debut album, Above the Bones, is sure to keep everyone listening.
Once McConaughey encountered Mishka’s music, he became determined, a man on a mission, to figure out who the artist was behind the “soundtrack of his life.” McConaughey searched for Mishka for almost five years before finally tracking him down at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, and forming a connection. Inspired and wanting more music, McConaughey made a quick phone call to his lawyer upon meeting Mishka, concerning the conception of j.k. livin in order to release Mishka’s music to the masses.
McConaughey became familiar with Mishka on New Years Eve of 2000 after he had been up for three straight days and was still unable to sleep. When Mishka’s music came on downstairs that night, McConaughey admits he “slept like a baby for 5 straight hours” and was immediately hooked.
Mishka and Matthew hit it off so well musically, they agreed it made sense to bring Matthew into the recording sessions to contribute in production. Matthew worked side by side with Darryl Thompson, who played for many years with Peter Tosh and Black Uhuru, and Mishka in order to create what is now, ABOVE THE BONES
WHAT: Mishka will be performing at the MaliBLUE Art & Music Festival along with tyronewells, Meiko, and Trevor Hall. The festival will also feature an art auction with works by many acclaimed artists, including Tom Dumont of No Doubt and Eric Avery of Jane’s Addiction.
The $10 admission fee will benefit the SURFRIDER FOUNDATION.
