Steve Martin to debut with Grand Ole Opry May 30

Multi-talented Emmy Award-winning actor/comedian/writer Steve Martin will make his Grand Ole Opry debut May 30 with a performance from his first music album, The Crow – New Songs for the Five-String Banjo. Life-long friend John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), who produced the album and assembled an all-star cast to record with Martin, will appear on the show along with Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Stuart Duncan, Tim O’Brien, and more.

The artists will be performing select songs from the The Crow album, and Martin will sing his song "Late for School"-- the second time he will have sung in public since the 1978 pop culture phenomenon King Tut, the first being on an appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this year, when he hosted for the fifteenth time. The Crow is currently available exclusively through Amazon.com but will be available at all music retailers later this year.

“We’re excited to welcome Steve Martin to the Opry in May,” said Opry Vice President and General Manager Pete Fisher. “Of course we’ve all been fans of his work on stage, television, and in film for years, but we’ve also been very impressed with his musicianship. Just as when other celebrities from all walks of life have paid the Opry a visit in the past, this will be a great night for all of us—for the Opry, for Steve, and for all of his fans and ours coming out to the show and tuning in.”

McEuen and Martin began their friendship as teenagers in Orange County, California, working at Disneyland’s Magic Shop, and have worked together over the years on various projects. “This will be a lifelong memory highpoint—one of just how far a dream can go,” McEuen said. "Two kids from Orange County at the Opry! Well, when Steve picks, fans will see how much it means to him to bring his music to the heart of country music. The audience will find out he’s a musician disguised as an actor.”

The Grand Ole Opry® is presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®. Opry performances are held every weekend of the year and on Tuesdays through Dec. 15. Opry Country Classics runs Thursdays through June 18 and Sept. 10 – Oct. 29. To plan an Opry visit, call (800) SEE-OPRY or visit www.opry.com.
