The UCLA Department of Music offers a variety of events for the public's enjoyment throughout the year. Programs include faculty and student recitals and performances of high artistic accomplishment in various genres, as well as visiting artists of national and international renown. Campus parking is available for $10 (all-day); short-term parking is also available (payable at pay stations). For events at Schoenberg Hall, park in Lot 2 (enter the campus at Hilgard and Westholme avenues), and for those at Freud Playhouse, use Lot 3 (enter from Hilgard Avenue on the east side of campus, at Wyton Drive).

The UCLA Philharmonia presents its fifth annual "All-Star" concert, an evening of concerto performances featuring UCLA's finest student soloists.

UCLA presents the West Coast premiere of Ellen Rosand's new critical edition of the 17th century's most popular opera, "Giasone," composed by Francesco Cavalli, with a libretto by Giacinto Andrea Cicognini. Both comical and serious, "Giasone" is a decidedly unusual take on the Jason and Medea story. (All productions of Opera UCLA are made possible through the generous support of the Maxwell H. Gluck Foundation.)

The woodwind faculty will present their annual program, with music by Mozart, Charles Koechlin and Bill Douglas and a premiere by faculty composer Mark Carlson. Performers include Sheridon Stokes (flute), Jonathan Davis (oboe), Gary Gray (clarinet), John Steinmetz (bassoon), Douglas Masek (saxophone) and Chris Cooper (horn); plus Neal Stulberg (piano) and top woodwind students.

UCLA presents the West Coast premiere of Jonathan Dove's celebrated opera "Flight." The opera, which premiered at Glyndebourne, England, in 1997 to enthusiastic critical acclaim, is a comedy with serious parts and is based on the experiences of a refugee stranded in an airport — whose story was also presented in the Tom Hanks film "The Terminal." (All productions of Opera UCLA are made possible through the generous support of the Maxwell H. Gluck Foundation. This event is co-sponsored by the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.)
