Dave Morrison and I See Hawks in LA in Thousand Oaks Jan. 29

Hey Everybody,

I'm happy to be part of a great show at a brand new venue. Marilyn Babcock, who does the Topanga Acoustic Music Series, is producing this at Four Friends Gallery in Thousand Oaks. owned by Larry Janss, a fine and interesting character, Four Friends is primarily an art gallery. But it is also a great multi-purpose room with a stage-riser and a bunch of comfortable chairs. There is also a very nice Mackie sound system, which will be manned by the golden-eared Scott King.

This is the first in a series. Our first headliner is I See Hawks in L.A. If you haven't seen them yet, they are not to be missed. Critics have swooned over them since their debut album, and have not cooled off. The reviews for their lastest, "Shoulda Been Gold" are just as glowing. www.iseehawks.com

They are a roots country outfit in the un-self-concious sense, with some of the hippie soul of the Flying Burrito Brothers, and a wised-up view of their beloved, and debauched Southern California, that is somehow both cynical and affectionate. And these are really great songs, full of adventure, wild lyric twists, and joyous delivery. And the boys play and sing their asses off. I like this quote:

“Southern California is a land of strange, dangerous and beautiful contrasts. A mountain lion prowls outside the tract home bedroom of a teenage girl while she talks, oblivious to its existence, on her cell phone. A rattlesnake slithers across an empty shopping mall parking lot on a hot summer night while the employees count up the days profit and turn out the lights. While paparazzi chase the latest talent free celebrity, a talented, literate bunch of soulful musicians create honest and wise roots music for the ages. I See Hawks are indeed one of California’s unique treasures.”- Dave Alvin

I'll be doing the opening set, with the great Paul Marshall sitting in on bass on a few tunes. I have two brand-new songs to share with you and maybe three by then.
