In an image obsessed society that begins its peak during the month of February; many organizations will be pushing women to focus on their exteriors with the lure of lingerie
and clothing sales. Other women will be wooed from the path of proper living with chocolates and candies that could potentially lead to all manner of medical issues. However, 50/50 Leadership
will take a novel approach this Valentine’s season by hosting a seminar focusing on heart disease, the number one cause of death of women in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Entitled “Be Your Own Valentine: How to Have a Healthy Heart” the event will occur on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Luna Playhouse (3706 San Fernando Road) in Glendale, CA 91204.
Tickets are priced at $15 for the general public and are available for reservation via tickets@5050leadership.org.
The seminar will feature educational discourse from cardiologist and Medical Director of the Women’s Heart Program at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Vyshali S. Rao, MD.
"Cardiologists try to stress to their patients more and more [that] cardiovascular disease is in the hands of each individual patient to change," Rao claims.
The seminar will deal with heart disease, women and the prevention of heart disease. In addition to the informational seminar tickets to the event include a complimentary copy of Healing Hearts: A Memoir of a Female Heart Surgeon by Kathy E. Magliato, M.D. Publishers Weekly states, “In her amazing memoir, Magliato belies the myth of surgeons as distant, cocky, robotic—and male. Look for sobering statistics on women and heart disease, and an inspiring example of living and loving life to the fullest.”
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States at 616,067 and is also the leading cause of death for US women.
