Rita Hosking & Sean Feder coming to Covina Feb. 12

Country folk singer-songwriter Rita Hosking and accompanist Sean Feder will perform at two venues in So. Cal. this February—Saturday, Feb. 12 at The Fret House in Covina (with Rick Shea,) and Sunday, Feb. 13 at Russell House Concerts in Lucerne Valley.

Kitchen tables, loggers, trailers, springs, loss, miners, culture clash, hope, forest fires—Rita Hosking's show is this and more, and always fierce and lovely. Her delivery is, to put it simply, intense.

"From the first time I heard Rita sing, her voice gripped me and did not let go; a voice whose beauty speaks from a deep place of honest and raw and powerful emotion." (Joe Craven.) Her voice, called a "soulful howl from the mountains" is calling attention around the country, and her songs as well. “The songs of Rita Hosking are as fragile as a newborn baby and defiant as a West Virginia coal miner,” (Fiddle Freak Folk Review.) "This California girl comes by her mountain-music sensibility with true authenticity, with original songs deeply rooted in her family's frontier experience," (Dan Ruby, FestivalPreview.com.)

Rita’s latest studio album, Come Sunrise produced by Rich Brotherton of the Robert Earl Keen Band, has received rave reviews. “Superb country folk from a brilliant singer-songwriter,” (Americana UK.)

Following in the footsteps of her great-grandfather who was an underground gold miner and singer at Empire Mines in Grass Valley CA, Rita and her husband Sean Feder also just made a live EP underground, in an active gold mine in the Sierra Nevadas. They brought their daughter, who guest sang and created a short video of the experience, now on the CD Rom Live in the 16 to 1 Mine. Sean is a multi-instrumentalist who plays everything from banjos to Dobros to pizza boxes and has performed at such diverse venues as the Arco Arena w/ Boston Pops Orchestra, Strawberrry Music Festival, and Apple Computer World Headquarters. A skilled melodic string player with a strong percussion background, Sean embraces Rita's songs with groove and sensitivity.

Rita’s accolades include People’s Choice “Best Country Album” in the 2010 Independent Music Awards, Winner of the Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest at the Sisters Folk Festival for 2008, and Finalist in the 2009 Telluride Troubador Contest.
