Vox Femina and Contra-Tempo offer music & dance workshop in Pasadena Feb. 27

After the tremendous success of the VOX FEMINA and CONTRA-TIEMPO's last free community workshop offered at Cantwell Sacred Heart High School on Jan 30th, the requests for another have been pouring in.

Vox Femina Los Angeles and CONTRA-TIEMPO Urban Latin Dance Company has now chosen the city of Pasadena for their next FREE Music and Dance Workshop. Vox Femina Los Angeles' Artistic Director, Dr. Iris S. Levine, and CONTRA-TIEMPO's Artistic Director, Ana Maria Alvarez, are again inviting the public to their second collaborative workshop between the two Los Angeles institutions.

This time, the festivities will be hosted by The Westridge School (324 Madeline Drive, Pasadena, California 91105), in the Hoffman Gymnasium, on Sunday, February 27, 2011 between 2-5pm. Suggested parking is in the State Street Parking lot.

Organizers are advising that it is important that the participants should NOT wear heels or dress shoes in the gymnasium. Dance shoes, sneakers or stocking feet only.

"Last month, the crowd enthusiastically laughed, danced and sweated, while having a great time," remarked Dr Levine. "Whether you missed the first one, or you want to re-live the fun, we welcome everyone. You won't want to miss this fabulous free event."

This event will also serve as a pre-cursor to the upcoming NUESTRAS VOCES concert planned for Sunday, March 19th at 8:00pm. This will be Vox Femina's second concert of their new season and offers a performance that will be a syncopated, sensual, sumptuous program of music and dance that may just have patrons dancing in the aisles!

Together, the two artistic groups will combine in the presentation of works that are the result of a shared exploration of one another's art form. The performance will also feature each ensemble showcasing its own art form. Other instrumental performers include the highly respected talents of Cristian Graces and Robert Fernandez. Concert contents include the music of Argentina, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Latin dances such as Merengue, Tango, Joropo, Baiao as well as Vox favorites Duerme Negrito, Maquerule, Maximina and Te Quiero.

The NUESTRAS VOCES Concert is supported by a grant from The James Irvine Foundation.

Vox Femina's 2010/2011 season is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the LA County Arts Commission.
